Used Edgebander Buying Guide

Purchasing a used edgebander can be a smart investment, whether you're buying your first machine, upgrading or replacing an existing one, or looking for a backup machine. This guide will help you navigate the different types of edgebanders available—from entry-level models to high-performance machines built for continuous, high-volume production. By the end, you'll have a clear understanding of what to look for to ensure you get the best edgebander for your needs.

We will cover everything for the power, dust and air requirements through the easy to use edgebander return conveyor and operator interface.

Let's start with the different stations of a edgebander. The different stations of an edgebander vary depending on the complexity of the machine, but most follow a general process. The number and type of stations depend on the size and design of the edgebander and the desired level of precision and finishing. Here are the common stations in an edgebander:

  1. Pre-Milling Station- Trims and squares the edge of the panel before applying the edge banding, ensuring a clean and smooth surface.
  2. Anti-Adhesive Station- A specialized unit that ensures that adhesive does not spill over or stick to unwanted areas of the panel or edge banding during the edgebanding process.
  3. Glue Application Station- Applies glue (hot-melt adhesive, PUR, EVA, etc.) to the panel or the edge banding material.
  4. Edge Band Feeding Station- Feeds and applies the edge banding material (PVC, ABS, wood veneer, etc.) onto the glued edge.
  5. Pressing Station- Uses rollers to firmly press the edge band onto the panel for a strong bond.
  6. End Trimming Station- Cuts the excess edge banding at both the front and rear ends of the panel.
  7. Top and Bottom Trimming Station- Trims the overhanging edge banding on the top and bottom of the panel to match the panel thickness.
  8. Corner Rounding Station- Rounds or smooths the panel's corners for a professional finish.
  9. Scraping Station- Removes excess glue and fine-tunes the edge banding for a clean finish.
  10. Buffing Station- Uses buffing wheels to polish and remove any remaining glue residues for a smooth and shiny finish.
  11. Grooving Station- Creates grooves in the panel for back panels or joinery applications.
